Coordinate Geometry: Locating Centers of Triangles
  • 20 problems were on the board today
  • whatever you did not finish in class is your homework

Constructing the Orthocenters and Centroids of Triangles

Construct:

  1. the orthocenter of an acute scalene triangle

  2. the orthocenter of an obtuse triangle

  3. the orthocenter of a right triangle

  4. the centroid of acute scalene triangle

  5. the centroid of of an obtuse triangle

  6. the centroid of a right triangle

  7. circumscribe a circle about an acute triangle

  8. circusmscribe a circle about an obtuse triangle

  9. inscribe a circle in an acute triangle (remember, you MUST construct a perpendicular from the incenter to any side (preferably the longest side) of a triangle first BEFORE you can inscribe a circle!!!!)

  10. inscribe a circle in an obtuse triangle

Constructing the Circumcenters and Incenters of different types of triangles

Construct the:

  1. circumcenter of an acute triangle

  2. circumcenter of an obtuse triangle

  3. circumcenter of a right triangle

  4. incenter of an acute triangle

  5. incenter of an obtuse triangle

  6. incenter of a right triangle

if you are even the tiniest bit off, do it over again!!!!!! PERFECTION is what you are striving for in a construction!!!!

please use colored pencils and/or highlighters to help you identify the different perpendicular bisectors and angle bisectors in your constructions. no color = no bueno =(

Ch 4 Practice Test

  • pg 313

  • (1-20) all

retry proofs in sections 4.4-4.6

  • since we did sooooooooooooooooo many proofs in class today, i wanted to give you guys another opportunity to showcase your intelligence so try doing the other even proofs that i did not discuss in class today. if you still can't figure it out, i will go over them tomorrow

Constructions

  • at this point, everyone should know how to:

  • copy a segment

  • copy an angle

  • construct an isosceles triangle

  • construct an equilateral triangle

  • construct a 60 degree angle

  • if you don't know how to do any one of these, google it, youtube it, something.... there are videos out there. i've seen them

  • 2 new constructionS alert!!!! (pg. 231)

  • KNOW how to construct the perpendicular bisector of a segment and the angle bisector as we will be using these techniques to discover our next theorems tomorrow in class.
